A Swindon Advertiser employee has walked free from court with a suspended sentence after carried out a vicious assault on two police officers at his home address in July.
Swindon Crown Court viewed 16 minutes of bodycam footage – which showed Joseph Theobold, of High Street, Highworth, shouting abuse at officers and then shoving his girlfriend.
PC Diamon and PC Baker had attempted to handcuff him when he violently resisted. Despite Theobold being sprayed with CS spray, he continued attack the officers – grabbing the throat of female PC Diamon.
PC Baker was left with bite marks on his arms following the struggle.
Media sales executive, Theobold, pleaded guilty to one count of assault thereby occasioning actual bodily harm and one count of assault with intent to resist arrest.
The court heard how defendant is receiving counselling for the amount of alcohol he drinks and has been honest and open with his employer, Newsquest – which issued him a final warning.
Judge Robert Pawson imposed a 14-month prison sentence suspended for two years and 200 hours of unpaid work. He must also pay £2,000 compensation to the two officers injured during the incident.
