A man’s died in a crash involving a single vehicle near Pewsey on Saturday night.
Emergency services were called to the incident in Alton Road, Wilcot, shortly before 11.30pm following a report that a Peugeot 106 had been involved in a collision.
Police say that for reasons currently unknown, the vehicle lost control on a single carriageway road heading from Alton Barnes towards Wilcot village, before coming to rest in a hedgerow.
A passenger in the vehicle – a local man in his 20s – died at the scene. The male driver and a female passenger sustained injuries but these were not described as serious.
Specialist officers from the Forensic Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to carry out enquiries and the road remained closed for several hours as a result.
A local man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving. He was taken to Gablecross custody and has since been released under investigation while police continue their investigation into the crash.
Wiltshire Police is asking anyone with information in relation to the collision to call 101 and quote log number 432 of 12 September.
