A suspected drink driver has been arrested following a crash in Swindon town centre.

The driver of the van fled the scene on foot. A man aged in his 20s – thought to be the driver – was swiftly detained responding officers and taken to hospital as a precaution.

The suspect has since been discharged from hospital and is now in custody – held on suspicion of dangerous driving, drink driving, failing to stop and driving without insurance.

A Jaguar car, a silver van and a Mini Cooper sustained damage in the incident, but nobody suffered any serious injuries.

Contrary to other media reports, there is nothing to suggest the van was stolen at this stage.

Wiltshire Police asks anyone who saw what happened please contact them by calling 101 quoting reference number 54230103546.
