A 48-year-old has been charged with a ‘stranger rape’ after a man was attacked at the weekend.
Elvis Barney appeared at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on Monday (19 December) charged with two counts of rape, both relating to the same alleged victim.
The man claims he left AJ’s Nightclub in Weymouth Street, Warminster, on Saturday 17 December ‘feeling unwell’ before waking up in a room he had never been in before.
The court heard that the alleged victim regained consciousness to discover a man having intercourse with him and he repeatedly told him to stop, but the man continued.
He’s said to have managed to flee the scene and call the police at a nearby phone box. He described the address to police officers – including the room he alleged the sex attack took place in.
Officers made enquiries and subsequently arrested the Barney, of George Street, Warminster, on suspicion of rape. He was later charged and remanded in police custody overnight.
On hearing details of the accusations against the defendant, the magistrates decided to remand him in custody until his next appearance – at Salisbury Crown Court in January. No pleas were taken at this stage.
