A ‘stop and search order’ is in place after a boy was stabbed in a Swindon field.

The Section 60 order allows police officers to detain anyone for a search without reasonable grounds following a knife attack yesterday (Thursday 8 June).

Wiltshire Police also confirmed the victim’s age is 17 not 15, as they initially said in a statement issued shortly after the serious incident occurred.

The teenager remains in critical condition at Southmead Hospital in Bristol, where he was flown by Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

A large section of Meadowcroft Fields in Upper Stratton – where the assault took place – remains cordoned off as detectives continue their probe.

A spokesperson for the force said: “A section 60 order covering most of Swindon and Highworth was put in place at 10.56pm yesterday and will be in force for 24 hours.

“This order allows police officers to stop and search anyone in a specific area without needing to have reasonable grounds.

“Extensive enquiries in relation to the stabbing are ongoing and there will remain a heightened police presence in the area.

“Anyone who witnessed or has information on the incident is urged to contact us on 101 quoting log 344 of June 8.”
