Chippenham Town Council has issued an apology after they were forced to close their popular Splashpad amid a heatwave.

As temperatures began to soar to the predicted 30 degrees Celsius this morning (Monday), locals were informed that the water feature has been turned off.

The Splashpad, in John Coles Park, is out of action over a technical issue – leaving many disappointed. An investigation into the problem is ongoing.

The park would likely be packed throughout the day, especially this afternoon as children finish school and head there with their families.

In a post on Facebook, Chippenham Town Council wrote: “We are currently experiencing some problems with the Splashpad in John Coles Park, and it is therefore closed.

“We are investigating and will update this page with news when we have further information.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

The splash pad, which is free to use, is a much-loved feature of the park and a key attraction for local children – especially during hot weather.

Families often visit the park specifically to use the facility, with children enjoying the water jets, fountains, and playful features designed to help them cool off.

On sunny days, the splash pad is typically busy from morning until evening, with families bringing picnics and spending the whole day in the park.

The timing of the closure is particularly unfortunate as Wiltshire is currently experiencing high temperatures, with many people seeking places to keep cool.

Chippenham Town Council has not confirmed when the splash pad will reopen but has promised to provide further updates once more information becomes available.
