The British Army has named the soldier who died during a training exercise in Wiltshire.

23-year-old Private Jethro Watson-Pickering, from Boosbeck, Yorkshire, was killed whilst deployed on Salisbury Plain for Ex Iron Storm on Friday, 15 October.

It’s believed a tank overturned near Enford and he sustained significant injuries. Despite the best efforts of medics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The Yorkshire Regiment very much regrets to announce the death on Friday 15th October of Pte Jethro Watson-Pickering 1YORKS”, an army spokesperson said.

Adding: “He was from Boosbeck, Redcar and Cleveland and was deployed on exercise on Salisbury Plain.

“The thoughts and prayers of the regimental family are with his family. ‘Fortune Favours the Brave’.”

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and other specialist paramedics were scrambled to the incident on a public byway in Enford, peaceful village situated about ten miles south of Devizes, at minutes before midday on Friday.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it sent two fire engines, from Pewsey and Ludgershall, and a heavy rescue unit from Trowbridge to the scene.

At the height of the incident, around a dozen police officers – from Wiltshire Police and the Ministry of Defence Police – were in attendance.
