A Shrivenham man who admitted racially abusing two bus users has claimed that he is not racist.

Sean Macgregor, 46, appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (28 June) charged with two counts of racially aggravated threatening behaviour – both committed in the Swindon area.

Whilst giving his pleas to legal advisor Wanda Seath, he said “I’m not racist but guilty”.

Prosecutor Keith Ballinger said the defendant, of Sandhill, Shrivenham, was on the S6 bus from Faringdon to Swindon – where he was acting disorderly – on 20 January.

He went upstairs before asking a passenger where he came from. The man ignored the defendant because he was concerned about his behaviour. Macgregor shouted: “Go back to where you came from, c**t”.

When other bus users challenged him about his hurtful words, he shouted: “I’m a racist”… “I’ve attacked another black person before which I did eight years for”.

A week later, on 27 January, a bus user spotted the defendant after alighting. He was shouting and trying to fight people – saying: “Black people are s**t”.

The Asian victim was approached by Macgregor shouting: “I’ll fight anyone you f**king Pakistani”.

The court heard how he has previous convictions for public order offences, including a racially aggravated crime.

Charlotte Frizzell, defending, asked for a post-sentence report to look into a mental health treatment requirement.

The case was adjourned for sentencing on 28 July.
