Shoppers and diners were left worried when alarms sounded and Regent Circus shopping complex was evacuated earlier this evening.
Hundreds of people poured out onto nearby streets at before 6pm.
Although some said that it was due to a suspicious package, it has been confirmed that smoke from a kitchen set off fire alarms and the fire service attended.
