There were scary scenes in Warminster today – as a raging field fire moved towards homes.
At least six fire crews were called to the scene off Ashley Coombe at around 2pm this afternoon (Sunday).
Firefighters, helped by local residents, urgently battled the flames as they spread in a farmer’s field.
Hundreds of nearby homes were under threat – with the blaze coming just metres from many.

People were warned to close their windows and doors due to the significant smoke plume.
Crews were able to bring the fire under control, but the field remains smouldering.
In a statement earlier, DWFRS said: “We are currently dealing with a large field fire south of Warminster off Deverill Road.
“Local residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed due to the smoke plume.”
The fire has since been extinguished and fire crews have left the scene. Nobody was injured.
It’s understood a spark from a tractor caused the fire — with the farmer desperately attempting to stop the spread without luck.
