A block of flats in Trowbridge have been evacuated after police responding to reports of the smell of gas discovered a man dead.
Emergency services were called to the scene in Orchard Court, off Brown Street on the Longfield housing estate, shortly after midday.
Local residents reported a strong smell of gas before fire crews arrived, with detectives from Central CID and two forensic teams attending at around 2pm.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police told Wiltshire 999s: “We were called by the ambulance service to Orchard Court at just after 12.15pm today following the report of a sudden death of a man in his 50s.
“Officers are currently at the scene and we are treating the death as unexplained at the moment.
“Following a report of the smell of gas at the block of flats, the property has been evacuated for safety reasons and the fire service is at the address and is dealing with this.
“You will notice a large police presence in the area while we continue with our enquiries. We will update you as soon as possible.”
