Police descended on on an alleyway in central Swindon following the discovery of a body.
Officers responded to reports of an unresponsive male in the Rosebery Street area at around 9pm on Thursday evening (9 July).
The man, aged in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene – and the road was cordoned off for an investigation into the circumstances.
Detectives carried out door-to-door enquiries and viewed nearby CCTV footage.
According to a local resident, it’s claimed an officer told them at the death was the result of an overdose. However this has not been confirmed by authorities at this stage.
Following several hours of work at the scene, detectives ruled the man’s passing as non-suspicious.
Officers arranged for undertakers to attend, and the cordon was later lifted.
“Our thoughts are with his friends and family”, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said.
