A resurfacing operative is in a serious condition in hospital after being hit by a van in Calne.
The man, who works for the road resurfacing division of Ringways called Eurovia UK, suffered head injuries when the vehicle ploughed into him while he worked at the roadside yesterday morning.
It happened at the Fishers Brook junction on the A3102 Calne Bypass at around 10am. The crash involved a black Nissan Qashqai and a white Vauxhall van sporting Wilkins Builders branding. The vehicles had collided with each other before the worker was hit.
Wiltshire Air Ambulance was tasked to the scene, landing in a nearby field. The man was taken to Great Western Hospital for treatment by land ambulance following the serious road traffic collision.
Specialist forensic collision investigators worked at the scene for at least six hours, working to establish the cause of the crash and ascertain who – if anyone – was at fault.
A hard hat could be seen on the floor next to the van – which had a smashed windscreen from the impact – with a yellow cone marking it as evidence to be documented during the investigation.
Wiltshire Police is yet to release any further information or a witness appeal relating to the collision.
