A reported ‘acid attack’ has sparked a 999 response to a Swindon coffee shop.
Emergency services attended Baristocats in Commercial Road at around 12.30pm today (Friday) following reports of an unknown substance being thrown.
A man claimed a substance was thrown at him, but following a multi-agency investigation, it is now believed he was suffering from a mental health crisis.
Wiltshire Police said it was ‘inappropriate to comment further’, but the man is now thought to be in the care of the ambulance service.
Two fire engines, several police vehicles and an ambulance were spotted at the scene by locals.
In an earlier statement, a spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to a premises on Commercial Road, Swindon at 12.31pm for a reported incident involving a hazardous material.
“One crew from Stratton and an officer are currently on scene, working with colleagues from the police and ambulance service to establish what has happened.”
