A man has died after a rental van he was driving left the road and overturned.
Two air ambulances landed near the scene of the fatal collision on the A36 near Warminster at around 9am this morning (4 September).
The crash, which took place close to the junction of the A362, left the driver – a man in his 60s – with significant injuries.
Despite the efforts of local ambulance crews and critical care medics from Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Great Western Air Ambulance, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A female passenger within the van didn’t suffer any injures.
Wiltshire 999s understands the van involved was an Enterprise Rent-A-Car branded vehicle.
The road, between Foxton and the Cley Hill Roundabout, remained closed at 3pm for forensic collision investigation work.
In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “A man has died following a single vehicle road traffic collision near Warminster this morning.
“The incident took place on the A36 close to the junction of the A362 near Warminster just after 9am.
“A van had left the carriageway at the Cley Hill roundabout.
“Sadly, the driver of the vehicle, a man in his 60s, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
“A female passenger was unhurt.
“The stretch of road between Foxton and the Cley Hill roundabout remains closed at this time.”
