UPDATED: Two men were arrested in immigration raid despite restaurant’s denial

Two men were arrested in an immigration raid at Rafu’s in Highworth yesterday afternoon, even though a spokesperson for the restaurant has deny it ever happened on social media.

Following the police presence at the scene, Rafu’s posted on Facebook that it was all ‘rumours’ and no one had been arrested there. They also said that ‘no drugs or illegal workers were found on the property’.

Despite this, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police confirmed that an immigration raid took place there and said that “one person was located within the premises and one was outside”.

Two men, aged 26 and 49, were arrested on suspicion of immigration offences and remain in custody.

Around ten police officers, alongside officers from the Home Office, were seen to attend the popular Indian restaurant at just after midday on Thursday 4 January.

A local shop worker, who didn’t want to be named, told us that around ten vehicles – some marked some unmarked – attended the restaurant, including an immigration-branded van. A few of the vehicles went to the back of the address while about six police officers entered the front of the restaurant.
