Pupils of a school that was gutted by a major blaze ‘will be in lessons on Monday morning’, a local councillor has told Wiltshire 999s.
Ten fire appliances from across the county were tasked with battling the flames at Woodborough Church of England School from around 6.30pm yesterday (17 September).
Local roads were closed whilst thick smoke filled the streets near Pewsey and emergency vehicles rightly blocked the path for other vehicles.
Wiltshire councillor Paul Oatway, who represents Woodborough, said he could not comment on the cause of the devastating blaze.
“Last night Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue attended the scene at a very prompt manner from Pewsey, supported by a further nine appliances from across the county”, he said.
“I have spoken to the Cheif Fire Officer Ben Ansell who reassures me that fire investigation is still underway. I am therefore not in a position to give any indication of how this fire was started.”
The councillor told of how “fantastic partnership work” will mean pupils can continue their learning on Monday.
He continued: “Wiltshire Council is working in partnership with Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue and other partners to bring forward a plan for the school to recommence first thing on Monday.
“Officers worked well into the night and overnight, and continue today, to ensure the school can return to an element of normality on Monday morning.
“I wish to reassure all parents that there are some fantastic partnership work underway to bring all these plans together.”
