The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash in south Wiltshire this morning.

Emergency services were called to the road traffic collision in Wood Road, Larkhill, at around 5am this morning where a 58-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was driving a Ford Fiesta van, which was the only vehicle involved in the incident.

Wiltshire Police received contact about the welfare of the fatally injured man before his death.

An Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) spokesperson said: “We have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding a fatal road traffic incident in Wood Road, Larkhill this morning.

“A 58-year-old man, who was driving the sole vehicle involved in the collision, died at the scene.

“Wiltshire police officers had received a concern for the man’s welfare prior to the collision.

“The investigation follows a mandatory referral from Wiltshire Police and our investigators have been deployed to the scene and post incident procedures.”
