A rarely-used dispersal order is in place across East Wichel in Swindon following a large disorder that sparked a major police response earlier tonight.
Police officers swarmed the housing estate in Swindon after a ‘huge fight’ reportedly broke out, with dozens of cops flooding the area at around 8.15pm.
One eyewitness said he saw ’15 people jump out of a van’ to join the ‘huge fight’ in Maddocks Path – where a man was stabbed just three weeks ago.
It’s understood arrests were made, while other officers chased suspects across the motorway bridge and into fields towards Inverary Road, Wroughton.
A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of common assault, and is currently in custody.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “A dispersal order was put in place in Wichelstowe this evening following a report of a disorder involving groups of youths in the area.
“Officers were initially called to the Wichelstowe bridge area at approximately 8pm.
“Although it is not believed anyone was injured, a Section 35 dispersal order was put in place at approximately 8.40pm to reduce the likelihood of crime or disorder in the area.
“The order covered the area contained within the boundaries of Mill Lane, Westlecott Road, Croft Road, Wharf Road, Maunsell Way, Boness Road, Dunbar Road, St Andrews Close and Lister Road, and will remain in place until 7am.
“Dispersal orders are used to help reduce anti-social behaviour which can cause a huge amount of concern for residents in the area.
“We’d urge anyone with information in relation to this evening’s disorder, to call 101 and quote log number 369 of Feb 3.”
