Police discover stun gun and drugs in Swindon mother’s home during raid

Police discovered a stun gun and drugs when they raided the home of a mother, a court heard.

Cara Baker, 25, pleaded guilty to possession of a noxious weapon prohibited under the Firearms Act, possession of cocaine and possession of cannabis at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on 5 November.

Crown prosecutor Keith Ballinger said police officers carried out a drugs warrant on the woman’s flat on 1 September last year.

During a search of the address, they discovered a stun gun in the kitchen drawer, several wraps of crack cocaine and a small bag of cannabis.

In an interview, the defendant, of Royston Road in Park South, Swindon, told officers she did not know the stun gun was in the drawer, but she does remember it being brought into her home. She admitted to the possession of drugs for personal use.

The court heard Baker has four previous convictions for drugs offences.

Richard Griffith, defending, said his client thought the stun gun was a torch and as a result, she had no intent to use it as a weapon.

He said Baker is currently four months pregnant with her second child, on benefits, is in debt and is working with The Nelson Trust to “get clean”.

Adding her previous drugs offences, he said: “She was in an extremely bad relationship with a drug user, who forced her to carry out the supply of drugs as a teenager.”

Accepting Baker had no intention of using the stun gun, magistrates fined her £266, told her to pay costs of £40 and a £34 victim surcharge.
