Police are appealing for witnesses after an officer was injured during an incident on Salisbury Plain last week.
Wiltshire Police said the officer was struck in the leg by an object believed to have been fired from a catapult.
The incident happened just after 9.30pm on Saturday 17 January near the Z crossing in Everleigh.
An officer on patrol saw several motorbikes being ridden without lights or number plates.
When the officer attempted to stop them, the bikes failed to stop and made off.
Police said the officer got out of his vehicle to retrieve a thermal scope from the rear.
At that point, he noticed a motorbike in woodland to the left of the road.
Moments later, something struck the officer’s left leg with significant force, causing bruising.
The motorbike then started up and left the area with its lights switched off.
The officer did not require hospital treatment.
Anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area, or who has information that could assist the investigation, is asked to contact Wiltshire Police.
