Police have spent the day searching a house, garden and cars after a baby died in Salisbury.

The five-week-old boy was rushed to hospital on 1 September but died eight days later – on 9 September. The tragic development sparked a murder investigation.

An 18-year-old woman, a 23-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman were earlier arrested on suspicion of murder and allowing or causing [a child to suffer] significant harm.

Today (Tuesday, 1 November), there was a significant police presence at a house in Tournament Road. Crime scene investigators, dog units and specialist officers were combing it for evidence.

During the course of their search, officers lifted the bonnets of two cars on the driveway – a Land Rover and an Audi. They also checked under stones and bricks and in the undergrowth.

Forensics bagged and removed a number of items from inside the semi-detached home, including a mattress and pillow.

In an earlier statement, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We’ve arrested three people following the death of a five week old baby from the Salisbury area.

“The child was admitted to Salisbury District Hospital on September 1 but sadly died on September 9.

“As a result of our extensive enquiries, we have today (November 1) arrested an 18-year-old woman, a 23-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman in relation to the investigation.

“Our enquiries continue.”
