Police have launched a probe into the discovery of potential human bones in Chippenham.
It’s thought the bones were discovered off Hardenhuish Lane by a member of the public who alerted Wiltshire Police early this morning (Sunday, 17 July).
Officers attended the find in Hardenhuish Woods and cordoned off the area – a stone’s throw from the St Nicholas’ Church cemetery – as a crime scene.
Three police cars and a forensic van were spotted parked alongside the small woodland, sparking concern among local residents.
Wiltshire Police confirmed that the bones were located near a badger set in Hardenhuish Woods – approximately three metres from the churchyard.
A force spokesperson said that “forensic enquiries are ongoing” after a small number of bones were discovered. The investigation continues…
Police had left the scene by around 11am.
