UPDATE 6.30PM: A ‘memorial site’ found in a Wiltshire woodland has been deemed non-suspicious.
A member of the public called the force to report the discovery in a village five miles north of Chippenham at around midday today (Saturday, 15 January).
Concerned about the discovery, officers cordoned off a section of secluded woodland in Upper Seagry, four miles south of Malmesbury.
Earlier today, a police spokesperson said it’s “not clear if there are any suspicious circumstances”, confirming an initial investigation was underway.
The force launched a full probe into what is being labelled as a suspected ‘memorial site’, but the probe did not turn up anything suspicious.
The investigation was closed several hours later.
“We have now confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances and police are leaving the scene”, Wiltshire Police said.
