Police say they have launched an investigation into the circumstances which led up to a man falling critically ill at an address in Devizes earlier this morning.
Three fire crews were called to the scene to help remove the casualty from the building in Nothgate Street, thought to be the The Dolphin public house, at around 8am.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Officers were called at approximately 6.40am following a report that a man had been found requiring urgent medical attention at a property in the road.
“The fire service attended to assist in the safe removal of the patient and he has been taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath by ambulance.
“At this early stage, it is not yet known whether a crime has taken place and we will be conducting enquiries this morning to determine the circumstances which led to this man falling unwell.”
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters from Devizes, Trowbridge and Chippenham helped remove the ‘critically ill’ patient from the property.
The road was closed for some time before reopening at around 9.30am.
