Police are working to establish to cause of a fire in a Swindon car park at the weekend.

Firefighters were called to put out the blaze – involving a white Volkswagen van – in Granville Street, near Havlock Square, at around 11am on Saturday.

But it’s not clear whether the fire was caused by an electrical fault or an arson attack. Officers say the van suffer substantial damage in the daytime incident.

PC Kayne Borresen said: “We are trying to establish if this vehicle caught fire accidentally or was caused by someone deliberately setting fire to it.

“It was broad daylight on a Saturday in the town centre, so several people would have been around and someone may have witnessed something suspicious.

“If that was you, please contact us on 101 quoting crime reference number 54200056262. Alternatively, you can report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
