The police helicopter circled Swindon last night in search of a suicidal missing person.
More than a dozen police officers were searching a large area of East Swindon – including Liden, Badbury Park, Wanborough and Liddington – in a bid to locate the missing person at around 10pm.
The National Police Air Service found the missing woman – in her 20s – and guided officers on the ground to her location. The police drone was also overhead supporting the search.
The drone captured the moment officers located them safe at before midnight.
Understanding the police response to a missing person
For some, the police response to a missing person report may seem 'over the top' but individuals who spark such an intensive search are usually classed as high-risk. This means they are vulnerable - they could suffer from mental health issues or need medical attention for a condition or injury.
This is likely to mean a police helicopter will be utilised, as a large number of police officers are dispatched to search on the ground. Wiltshire Search and Rescue will be put on standby and called in for support if the police cannot locate the missing person quickly.
