Police officers are guarding the scene of a bedsit blaze in Trowbridge.
Emergency services were called to reports of a fire within a property in Marlborough Buildings, Roundstone Street, at around 5.20pm yesterday (16 September).
Firefighters from Trowbridge, Bradford on Avon, Warminster and Swindon attended the incident and eight breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reel to to extinguish the flames.
Wiltshire Air Ambulance, two ambulances and police were also in attendance.
Overnight and this morning (17 September), Wiltshire Police officers and PCSOs are guarding the entrance to the flats as Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service probe the cause.
The 7 Days shop below the scene has remained closed since the fire broke out and isn’t expected to reopen until later today.
Fire service statement in full:
“We were called to Roundstone Street, Trowbridge at 5.23pm yesterday for a fire in a second floor bedsit above a shop.
“Three crews attended, from Trowbridge, Bradford on Avon and Warminster, as well as the aerial ladder platform from Swindon and the emergency response volunteers from the British Red Cross, based at Swindon fire station.
“The stop came at 7.06pm although we maintained a presence on scene until about 10pm; eight breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire, and all other accommodation within the building was checked.
“An investigation into the cause of the fire will continue this morning.”
