Police have swarmed the Great Western Hospital after a car crashed during a ‘chase’.

Officers were reportedly pursuing a silver Mercedes when it struck a bollard outside the main entrance at around 5.30pm this afternoon (Thursday).

The driver is believed to have ditched the vehicle and fled on foot – before being arrested nearby.

A witness told Wiltshire 999s that there are seven police cars in attendance.

Another witness, who was driving along Marlborough Road, said a roads policing unit was chasing the Mercedes at high speed as it turned into the hospital site.

‘It nearly went into the back of me’, he said. Adding: ‘Doing quite big speed, I don’t imagine it will have ended well.’
