Police have obtained a closure order for a house ‘associated with a Swindon gang’.
Neighbourhood officer PC Aiden Hillier asked Swindon Magistrates’ Court to impose a partial closure order on a property in Welcombe Avenue this morning (Thursday).
He told of how the house has been frequented by a local gang and when officers raided it on 28 March, class A and B drugs were located and seized.
An investigation into suspected drug supply is ongoing, but Wiltshire Police applied to the court to prevent people – other than those named – from entering the property.
It’s claimed that youths and males spend time at the address, arriving wearing balaclavas and black clothing – and riding electric bikes.
The tenant of the Swindon Borough Council-owned home effectively supports the closure order and as such, did not attend court to contest it.
PC Hillier said there were concerns gangs using the address could result in disorder involving rival groups, citing the recent shooting and various stabbings.
Magistrates granted the partial closure order for three months. It is a criminal offence for anybody, other than those listed, to enter the property.
