Police have arrested a ‘cheeky’ motor thief on the A350 in Chippenham.
An Audi A1 was reported stolen in the Avon and Somerset policing area at around 8am this morning (Monday).
The fleeing thief drove into Wiltshire and stopped to commit a shop theft.
They were quickly intercepted by specialist roads policing officers, pulling the vehicle over on the A350 in Chippenham – on Junction 17 of the M4.
In a post on social media, Wiltshire Police wrote: “The Audi A1 you see in the distance was reported stolen in [Avon and Somerset Police] force area at 0800 hours today.
“The driver made the wrong choice of driving through Wiltshire and had the cheek to commit a shop theft whilst here.
“[Roads policing unit] deployed and now have one on the way to custody.”
Motorists faced some delays on the approach to Junction 17 while police dealt with the incident, which is now believed to have cleared.
