At least one person has suffered significant injuries in a serious collision on the A346.
Emergency services were called to the scene on the Burbage bypass at around 6.30am this morning (1 December) following reports of a crash.
The incident involved two vehicles – a car and van, with the road expected to remain closed for collision investigation work for several hours.
An witness told Wiltshire 999s that one of the casualties suffered significant injuries. They believe the collision was head-on and occurred during an overtake.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the car and a van were involved, with numerous resources being sent to the collision.
“We were called to the A346 at Stibb Green, Burbage at 6.31am this morning following a two vehicle road traffic collision between a car and a van”, a spokesperson said.
Adding: “We have three crews in attendance, from Marlborough, Ludgershall and Swindon, together with a heavy rescue unit from Reading.”
Fire crews left the scene shortly after 8.30am.
Wiltshire Police is asking anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who may have dash cam footage to get in touch immediately by calling 101 and quoting log number 31 of 1 December.
In an earlier statement, a force spokesperson said: “Road closures are in place on the A346 at the A4 junction near Marlborough and the A338 roundabout in Burbage.
“It is likely that the route will be closed for a number of hours to allow emergency services to attend.
“We will update when the road has reopened – thank you for your patience.”
The road isn’t expected to reopen until after 2pm.
