A person has been hit by a train just outside Swindon this evening (Thursday).
Multiple 999 crews were called to the railway line near South Marston at around 6pm.
Emergency vehicles are parked along the A420 close to Acorn Bridge – causing significant traffic delays in both directions.
Wiltshire Police is asking motorists to “find alternate routes” while first responders attend the scene.
There is slow or standstill traffic between Gablecross Roundabout and Shrivenham.
A witness said police officers and paramedics were on the tracks, alongside a stationary freight train.
Train services on the mainline between Swindon and Didcot are also delayed and cancellations are expected.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Great Western Railway said: “”It is with great sadness that we report a person has been struck by a train, leading to all lines being blocked.
“It is necessary to bring all trains in the affected area to an immediate stop.
“If you are onboard one of the services in this incident and are distressed by events, please do speak to a member of Train Crew for assistance.
“Alternatively, if you need to talk with someone privately the Samaritans offer a 24hr phone line available via 116 123.”
