A person has been killed by a train at a station on the mainline near Wiltshire.

Emergency services were called to Didcot Parkway Station – between Swindon and Reading – at around 12.30pm this afternoon (Friday).

It’s understood a person was struck by a Great Western Railway train to Swansea, which was passing through the station towards Swindon.

A number of people who witnessed events are being supported by rail staff, police and other 999 crews on scene.

The station has been evacuated and all lines are blocked due to the ongoing incident.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “We were called at 12.31pm to Didcot station to reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Officers attended alongside paramedics but sadly a person was declared dead at the scene.”

A Great Western Railway spokesperson said: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between London Paddington and Didcot Parkway, all lines are blocked.

“Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 90 minutes.
