Person found on railway in Corsham airlifted with ‘significant injuries’

A person has been airlifted to hospital after they were found with ‘significant injuries’ on a railway line.

Emergency services were called to the tracks immediately below Pound Pill bridge at around 1pm this afternoon (Saturday).

A person was reportedly found on the tracks with ‘significant injuries’, including a head injury. It’s not yet known how they came to be injured.

They were treated by ambulance crews, including Wiltshire Air Ambulance medics, before being flown to the major trauma centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

As a result, there are train services through Corsham are affected by travel delays.

In a statement, Great Western Railway said: “Following trespassers on the railway between Bath Spa and Chippenham all lines will be reopened shortly. Disruption is expected until 15:00 16/12.

“Train services between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads may be cancelled, delayed or diverted.

“A person has been reported on the railway in the Corsham area on the railway. They are being treated by paramedics and will be removed from the railway by the Air Ambulance.

“Stagecoach route 55: Swindon (Bus Station), Chippenham (Station) are conveying passengers between Swindon and Chippenham in both directions until further notice.

“Arrangements have been made for Great Western Railway rail tickets to be accepted for these journeys.”
