Police have closed a road after a pedestrian was hit by a car in Swindon town centre.
John Street, off Fleet Street, has been cordoned off as a crime scene since the road traffic collision at around 5pm today (Saturday, 5 November).
Emergency services were called to the scene, and a casualty – believed to be a woman – was treated on the pavement before being rushed to hospital in an ambulance.
The car, a Suzuki Splash, also impacted a fence around a construction site, but it’s not clear if the wounded casualty was crushed between the vehicle and the fence.
Forensic collision investigation officers are in attendance, with work expected to take numerous hours.
The road is likely to remain closed until late tonight or early tomorrow morning (Sunday, 6 November).
Wiltshire Police confirmed that the injured person was “transported to Great Western Hospital in Swindon to be treated for serious injuries”.
The force has not yet said if anyone was arrested over the incident, but Wiltshire 999s understands that the driver – a man – remained at the scene.
