A pair arrested over a horror hit-and-run in Swindon have been released on bail.

A woman, aged in her 30s, was rushed to hospital after being struck down by a car in Rodbourne Road at around 2.20am on Tuesday morning (9 June).

She was initially fighting for her life, but Wiltshire Police say she is now stable having sustained life-changing wounds as a result of the collision.

A Vauxhall Corsa with front-end damage was located by a member of the public in an alleyway off Crombey Street. After an examination of the car, it was seized by police.

A 35-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Following questioning, both suspects were released on conditional bail.

Shortly after the incident, Roads Policing Inspector Neil Duffin said: “We are appealing to anyone who was in the area of the Swindon Outlet Village, Rodbourne Road or Crombey Street between 2am and 2.30am, to contact us as a matter of urgency.

“You may have information which could help with this investigation into a serious collision which left a woman seriously injured.

“We also need to hear from anyone who may have relevant dashcam or CCTV footage.”
