Paedophile Wiltshire police officer has been banned from policing for life.
It comes after then-serving PC, Callum Denley, was found have 1,590 indecent photos and videos of young victims on his devices – some as young as five years old.
The 20-year-old, of Old Alexander Road, Malmesbury, pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children.
Of the images uncovered by police following a tip-off about his activity on Discord, 766 were graded the most serious, involving penetrative sexual activity.
He was spared an immediate prison term, with the Judge handing down a suspended sentence.
A misconduct hearing at Wiltshire Police Headquarters on Monday (14 July) – chaired by Assistant Chief Constable Deb Smith – found that he would’ve been dismissed without notice if he hadn’t handed in his papers.
It considered one allegation in relation to Denley, who resigned from the force on 18 March – the day he was charged.
The hearing upheld the allegation and concluded that his actions breached the standards of Professional Behaviour for police officers of Honesty and Integrity and Discreditable Conduct.
It was determined that he would’ve been dismissed without notice for gross misconduct. He will also be placed on the national barred list which means he will not be able to work in policing in the future.
Deputy Chief Constable Mark Cooper said: “Callum Denley’s criminal offences were abhorrent and could not be further removed from what a police officer should be.
“As a member of our police service, Denley was in a position of trust, with a responsibility to protect the public from harm.
“He has completely undermined that trust and his actions have the potential to damage the trust and confidence that the public should be able to have in their police service.
“Police officers must ensure that their behaviour is always of an impeccable character and this case is clearly far from that.”
