A paedophile ex-cop has avoided prison for having a stash of child abuse images.
Former Wiltshire Police officer Callum Denley was caught with 1,590 indecent photos and videos of children – some as young as five years old.
The 20-year-old, of Old Alexander Road, Malmesbury, was caught after police received information about his activity on the messaging platform Discord.
Supported by his mum and dad at Swindon Crown Court, the Judge Townsend was told how he could only rely on them after losing all of his friendships as a result of this convictions.
Denley spent his late childhood as a police cadet, with dreams of becoming a police officer. He finally joined the force when he was 19 – and served just six months in uniform before his abhorrent crimes was uncovered.
Accepting ‘genuine remorse’ and steps the defendant had taken to address his ‘horrifying’ offending, the Judge sentenced the defendant to ten months behind bars suspended for 18 months.
He was told to complete 40 rehabilitation activity days with the probation service, including a sex offenders programme.
Denley was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years, and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order was made for five years.
