Nurse suspended after referral to the police over ‘potential misrepresentation’

A nurse has been suspended from a Swindon doctor’s surgery after a referral was made to Wiltshire Police about ‘potential misrepresentation of a member of staff’.

According to NHS Swindon Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), they have serious concerns about the quality of care that may have been provided to patients by an associate practitioner working at Eldene Surgery in recent years.

In a statement, the Group said: “At this stage, there is no reason to believe that anything untoward has taken place with their care.

“But, the CCG wants to make sure that this is the case and all registered patients of the practice have been written to”.

A confidential helpline has been set up for patients of Eldene Surgery to call and the call-handler will then give them direct information as to the next steps.

The helpline number is 0300 111 0023 and will operate from 8:00am–8:00pm, Monday to Sunday; information given to the helpline staff will be treated in confidence and will only be shared with Eldene Surgery staff.

“Patients have been reassured that these steps are being taken as a precautionary measure in the first instance and actions have been taken to ensure current services are safe”, the Group spokesperson added.

“It is not felt that anything untoward has happened, however, Swindon CCG has referred this matter to Wiltshire Police, due to the potential misrepresentation of a member of staff who was allegedly working outside of their level of trained competence.”

Wiltshire Police has been approached for comment.
