Swindon’s only Nike store has been closed today for a ‘deep clean’ just days after an employee at the firm’s European headquarters contracted coronavirus.
The store, located in McArthurGlen’s Swindon Designer Outlet, remained closed at 3.30pm with a sign stating that it is “closed for cleaning and will be open later today”.
A guest host at the shopping centre told a member of the public that the cleaning was a ‘precautionary measure’, but did not confirm why the clean was being undertaken.
Following the confirmed case at Nike’s Netherlands headquarters, it’s thought the firm have instructed the cleaning of all their stores in a bid to fight any spread of the virus.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website reads: “It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.”
We’ve approached McArthurGlen and Nike for comment.
