You can discover the many ways you can help to make a difference at Stourhead at one of the volunteer recruitment days.

All are welcome to come along as Stourhead showcases the diverse range of opportunities available for volunteering as part of the National Trust team.

The two volunteer recruitment days will be held on Wednesday 22 January and Wednesday 26 February, from 10am – 3pm, in Stourton Memorial Hall on the Stourhead estate, near Mere.

There are a vast range of volunteer roles at Stourhead that are integral to looking after the estate, with its famed landscaped gardens and 18th- century Palladian mansion. Explore the chance to become part of a welcoming and passionate team, whether you’re interested in being out in the fresh air, submerged in history, or being a friendly face to welcome visitors.

Chantelle Margetts, Senior Volunteering and Community Officer at Stourhead, says: “At Stourhead, our volunteers bring so much value and importance to what we do. From inspiring everyone who walks through our doors, to the significant conservation work we do.

“Together, we continue to look after and uphold the legacy of Stourhead for future generations.”

Carly Williams, volunteer gardener, describes: “It feels wonderful to know that I am part of a fabulous team who are all dedicated to looking after a place with such a rich garden history, whilst having some fun and laughter along the way— including lots of tea and cake.

“It feels great to be able to explain to visitors about the work we do and answer their questions about the garden.

“During the week I work full time as a Customer Services Manager, so being able to volunteer on a weekend is ideal.”

If your New Year’s resolution is to try something new, you can visit the volunteer recruitment day at any time between 10am – 3pm to speak to current volunteers and managers and learn what flexible, exciting roles are available.

For more information on the day, or if you are interested in becoming a volunteer but can’t attend the recruitment day, please contact Chantelle Margetts on 01747 841152 or email [email protected].

About Stourhead

Stourhead is a Palladian house and world-famous landscape garden. When it first opened in the 1740s, a magazine described it as ‘a living work of art’. The world-famous landscape garden has at its centrepiece a magnificent lake reflecting classical temples, mystical grottoes, and rare and exotic trees, and offers a day of adventure.

The history of Stourhead can be uncovered in the house with its unique Regency library, Chippendale furniture, and inspirational paintings. The Palladian house is set amid ‘picnic perfect’ lawns and extensive parkland (2,650 acres), where chalk downs, ancient woods and farmland are managed for wildlife.
