A man has been detained by police after an incident in Devizes this evening.
Emergency services were called to the scene in Waiblingen Way at around 5pm following reports of an elderly man in distress within a flat.
Local residents reported seeing a large police presence, two fire engines and an ambulance in attendance for around two hours.
Taking to Wiltshire 999s at the scene, a witness said “he started waving a carving knife around whilst stark-b***ock-naked” when a neighbour – on seeing smoke and flames – went to try and help him.
Another local said he had “threatened to set fire to his flat and stab people if they came in”.
He was detained by officers by 6.15pm and taken away in a police van. It’s not year clear whether he was arrested for an offences or detained under the Mental Health Act.
No one’s believed to have been injured in the incident.
