Police have launched a murder probe after a man was killed at an address in Swindon.
Officers responded to a call about a serious assault at a property in Westbourne Court, Rodbourne, at around 1am this morning (Sunday).
A man, aged in his 50s, was found injured. Despite the best efforts of police and ambulance crews, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man aged in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He has been taken to Gablecross custody for questioning by homicide detectives.
The victim’s family has been informed. Wiltshire Police say they are being supported by specially-trained family liaison officers.
A cordon is in place at the scene of the murder as forensic enquiries are carried out. The probe is being led by the Major Crime Investigation Team.
The force warned local residents that they are likely to see an increased police presence in the area over the coming days.
Det Supt Chris Feerick said: “This is a serious incident which has sadly resulted in a man losing his life.
“I can confirm that we have arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of murder and he has been taken to custody to be questioned.
“I appreciate the community concern this incident will cause but please be reassured that at no point was there a threat to the wider public.
“Local residents will see a significant police presence in the area today. If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to speak to one of our officers.”
