A 47-mile pursuit ended in arrested after the getaway car ran out of fuel.
Officers attempted to stop a black Mercedes in Salisbury city centre at around 11.05pm on Tuesday (9 December) following concerns it was on cloned plates.
However, it failed to stop, leading police on a chase which lasted approximately 30 minutes and spanned parts of two counties – Wiltshire and Hampshire.
The vehicle was driven at speed through Laverstock onto the A30 and A343 before having a near miss just past Lopcombe, and then onto the A303.
Working jointly with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, the pursuit eventually ended at Fleet Services on the M3 – when the suspects vehicle ran out of fuel after 47 miles.
A 20-year-old man from Salisbury was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving otherwise than in accordance with a driving licence, driving with no insurance and drug driving.
He was taken to Melksham custody where he remains for questioning. An investigation is ongoing.
