A Melksham man has been charged with a string of nine crimes against his girlfriend.
Joe Martin has been arrested and remanded in police custody ahead of a hearing at Salisbury Magistrates Court this morning (Thursday).
The 27-year-old, of Lavender Close, faces nine allegations relating to the same woman, aged in her 20s, between 9 February and 17 February 2026.
The charges include:
• Assault occasioning actual bodily harm
• Intentional non-fatal strangulation x3
• Engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour – namely by threatening to crash the car and threatening to chop her head off, taking her phone off her to prevent her getting help, multiple assaults during arguments when she would not do what you wanted and degrading her in front of her friends
• Common assault x2
• Breaching a Domestic Violence Protection Notice
• Breaching a Domestic Violence Protection Order
Due to the nature of the allegations, it is like the case will be sent to a crown court. Magistrates will deal with the issue of bail, deciding if Martin is held in prison ahead of the next hearing.
