McDonald’s has announced that it is to close all of its UK restaurants by the end of tomorrow.
Last week the company took the decision to close the seating areas in its 1,350 outlets up and down the country – a move that was reinforced by law when the Prime Minister announced the closure of all such establishments on Friday who supported a takeaway service.
However, McDonald’s has gone one step further to halt all drive-thru and takeaway operations and close the doors for the foreseeable future.
All McDonald’s will close by 7pm tomorrow at the latest, but it’s not known when they will reopen.
In a statement released tonight it has been said: “We have taken the difficult decision to close all McDonald’s restaurants in the UK and Ireland by 19:00 on Monday 23rd March at the latest.
“This is not decision we are taking lightly but one made with the wellbeing and safety of our employees in mind as well as in the best interests of our customers.
“We will work with local community groups to responsibility distribute food and drink from our restaurants in the coming days.
“Thank you to our brilliant employees for their hard work during this incredibly challenging time.
“We look forward to seeing you all again as soon as it is safe for us to re-open”.
