A Salisbury man who poured petrol over his head before setting himself on fire has died.
Emergency services raced to the scene in Avon Drive, Alderbury where a number of the casualty’s neighbours desperately put out the fire and tried to save his life.
The man, in his 50s, was airlifted to Southmead Hospital but was later pronounced dead.
Wiltshire Police say the death is not being treated as suspicious and a self-referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to police contact prior to his death.
An IOPC spokesperson said: “We have received a referral from Wiltshire Police relating to this matter and will make a decision on the level of our involvement, if any, in due course.”
