A man was tasered after a woman was injured in a ‘carjacking’ at McDonald’s.
Police swarmed the fast food restaurant in Cricklade Road, Cirencester, shortly before 8pm yesterday evening (Tuesday, 27 February).
It came after reports of a man violently assaulting a woman in the car park, before attempting to steal her car – and subsequently crashing it.
The 34-year-old suspect fled the scene on foot, but he was swiftly located by officers a short distance away outside Aldi.
It was then that the man became violent towards them and resisted arrest. As a result, three officers were injured and a Taser was used to detained him.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of five counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, Gloucestershire Constabulary said.
He was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, where he remains for treatment.
The man has since been further arrested on suspicion of two counts of theft of a motor vehicle after it was identified that an additional two cars had been stolen with the owners also assaulted.
The restaurant was closed following the assault, and some staff – said to be distressed by events – were sent home.
At the height of incident approximately ten police vehicles, including an armed response unit, were in attendance.
A force spokesperson said: “Officers are asking anyone who witnessed what happened or has mobile phone footage to make contact.
