A man was reportedly seriously assaulted in violent attack in Melksham town centre.
Police cordoned off pavements in High Street and Bank Street following an incident in the early hours of this morning (Saturday).
According to the niece of the injured man, he was ‘seriously attacked by a coward’.

Kayleigh Pritchard said she’s ‘looking for details or information on anything you saw that looked dodgy, anyone covered in blood, if you saw anyone cycling through town on bikes’.
Adding that ‘if you saw anyone having a row in town or anything that looked heated or was a bit odd please let me know.
‘Remember this is a small town and you will be found.’
More than 12 hours on, Wiltshire Police haven’t provided a statement on the incident – with rumours and speculation rife on social media.
It’s suggested the victim was attacked with a hammer, while others claim a knife was involved.
While the force is yet to appeal for witnesses, anyone with information should make contact by calling 101.
Crime scenes were lifted by midday, after forensic investigation work was carried out.
